Description
A practical 10-week short course designed for local government leaders, development practitioners and community organisers to strengthen rural economies and empower households. The programme equips participants with tools to design inclusive rural development strategies, mobilise communities, support agribusiness, and integrate rural economies into national and regional markets.
What You Will Learn (6 modules)
● Module 1 — Foundations of Rural Development: principles, policy frameworks, rural-urban linkages and inclusive growth.
● Module 2 — Community Mobilisation and Participation: participatory planning, citizen engagement, inclusion of women and youth, and feedback mechanisms.
● Module 3 — Agribusiness and Value Chain Development: strengthening farmer groups, cooperative models, market access and agro-processing.
● Module 4 — Infrastructure and Service Delivery: rural roads, energy, ICT, water and sanitation as enablers of economic empowerment.
● Module 5 — Financing and Resource Mobilisation: microfinance, SACCOs, donor programmes, PPPs and innovative financing for rural projects.
● Module 6 — Monitoring, Evaluation and Sustainability: indicators, dashboards, adaptive learning and strategies for scaling rural initiatives.

● Applied assessment: submit a rural development strategy, an agribusiness plan and a community empowerment framework.
