Beneficiaries Categories:

1. Refugees: According to UNHCR Report (2017), Uganda hosts the 3 rd largest refugee settlement in the world with up to 1.4 million out of approximately 20 million refugees under the UN with a 44% growth in refugee settlers in 2017 alone.

2. Orphans: In Africa, orphans are left to the mercy and support of communities, most of which are not economically empowered, and very few can provide education only to primary or secondary school. There is a growing need to support orphans gain the much-needed higher education support for them to impact the communities that have supported them.

3. People with Disabilities: According to a 2013 UNESCO report, persons with disabilities in Uganda within the 15-29 years of age bracket, constitute average of 4.5% with female at 3.8% and male at 5.2%. Majority of these have had access to primary and secondary education, however, higher learning is still a challenge.

4. Women: According to UNESCO, education plays a key role in eradicating poverty: it helps people obtain decent work, raises their incomes, and generates productivity gains that fuel economic development. Education is the most powerful means of achieving gender equality, of enabling girls and women to fully participate socially and politically, and of empowering them economically.

5. Needy Students: In October 2017, the World Bank released the “Sharing higher education’s promise beyond the few in sub-Saharan Africa” report, highlighting the rising demand and supply of tertiary education, along with disparities in access and economic payoffs across income groups.

6. Excellent Performers: The University has seen an influx of exceptionally performing students who are challenged financially and are unable to continue with studies. We have established a framework to support these students, however, the need is high and cannot support all of them. These students if accorded the requisite support have the potential to occupy top positions in various organizations, transform their communities, emancipate countries, spearhead innovation and create employment for others and in the long run, support others in education through impact giving.
