ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Master of Arts in Development Economics and Finance (MDF) at Nexus International University, equips graduates with the analytical prowess to drive sustainable economic transformation. This rigorous program blends theoretical depth with practical application, addressing Uganda’s unique development challenges within a global context. Core modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics are complemented by specialized courses covering financial sector development, international trade, and environmental finance.
Students delve into policy analysis, project evaluation, and the dynamics of emerging markets, mastering quantitative methods and data analysis. The curriculum integrates digital finance and technological advancements, preparing graduates for the evolving financial landscape. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

- Critically evaluate and formulate effective economic and financial policies, considering the specific needs of developing economies like Uganda, and align them with international best practices and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Apply expertise in financial markets, institutions, and instruments, enabling them to contribute to the development and stability of the financial sector, including in areas like financial inclusion and digital finance.
- Conduct rigorous research, analyse data, and effectively communicate their findings through written reports, presentations, and policy briefs, contributing to the knowledge base in development economics and finance.
- Analyse the impact of globalization and regional integration, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), on developing economies, and contribute to strategies that promote sustainable economic growth and development within these frameworks.
Admissions Requirements
The admission process is designed to identify candidates who demonstrate the potential for academic excellence, leadership, and professional growth. To be admitted to the NIU programme, an applicant is required to possess:
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution, relevant work experience, and strong academic and professional references.
- Adequate knowledge of computers, and access to a reliable computer and Internet connection, and preferably owning a laptop.
- A pass mark of 50 in the NIU Graduate Admission Test may be required.
