Description

A practical 10-week certificate that trains practitioners, planners and regulators to design, conduct and manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) that meet national requirements and international best practice. The course combines legal frameworks, technical assessment methods, stakeholder engagement and mitigation planning so participants can produce robust EIAs and guide sustainable project decisions.

● EIA principles and legal frameworks: national EIA legislation, permitting processes and international standards.
● Scoping and baseline studies: defining project boundaries, baseline data collection for physical, biological and socio-economic environments.
● Impact identification and prediction: methods for predicting impacts on air, water, soil, biodiversity and communities.
● Mitigation and management planning: hierarchy of mitigation, EMPs, monitoring plans and adaptive management.
● Stakeholder engagement and public participation: consultation design, grievance mechanisms and inclusive engagement techniques.
● EIA reporting and quality assurance: writing clear non-technical summaries, technical appendices and peer review processes.
● Cumulative impacts and strategic assessment: assessing combined effects and linking EIA to SEA and land-use planning.
● Monitoring, compliance and audit: designing monitoring indicators, compliance checks and corrective action systems.
