Joint African Israeli Master of Public Health Programme

Starting this September 2022

INTRODUCTION

The outbreak of the COVID-19 has highlighted the problems confronting the global governance of international public health. This calls for the joint response from all humankind, hence the Joint Africa Israeli postgraduate degree programme in Master of Public Health (MPH). It is birthed in response to the new challenges to the global governance of international public health.

The Joint Africa Israeli MPH programme is the first of its kind resulting from a collaboration agreement between Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI), Israel and Nexus International University, Kampala.

This innovative and practically driven international degree aims to equip students with a variety of skills to improve their knowledge and competencies in promoting health amongst specialised and applied health areas and populations.

Programme Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the program, graduates shall be able to:

  1. Compare and critique public health and healthcare organizations, systems, and approaches by applying fundamental theories, models and the methods.
  2. Evaluate the evolution and impact of public health programs and healthcare delivery on population health outcomes.
  3. Integrate historical and social justice lenses to describe major causes and trends of population health.
  4. Apply concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion to function as an effective member of an inter-professional team.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in use of computer applications and Internet technology to sustain effective health systems and successful outcomes.
  6. Communicate public health plans and decisions in oral and written reports as well as demonstrating professional conduct at their workplaces.

Participants will be eligible for an intensive 2-week module in Israel at GIMI during the second year of the programme. This is a period for hands-on experiential learning in Israeli. Participants will pay for their airfare and for their living expenses while in Israel at the GIMI’s associate study centre.

Admission Requirements to the MPH programme:

Admission to the Programme is open to all graduates of all nationalities who fulfil the admission requirements. A candidate is eligible for admission if he/she satisfies the following:

  1. A degree first degree passed at second class or its equivalent, in the event that the first degree is classified
  2. Relevant working experience in a health service or health research institution is an added advantage

Cost

The cost of tuition for the two-year programme is US $5,000. This cost excludes the cost for the period of hands-on experiential learning in Israeli.

Graduates of NIU’s MPH are qualified for a number of jobs that call for their background and knowledge. Our MPH graduates can be employed for roles as: Public Health Specialist; Head of Public Health Intelligence; Health Partnership Programme Manager; Health Promotion Campaign Manager; Epidemiologist; Health Data Analyst; Project Coordinator; Public Health Advisor; Health Protection Specialist; Public Health Screening Coordinator; Vascular Prevention Programme Coordinator; Health Improvement Practitioner; Public Health Specialist: Healthy Living; and Lecturer in Public Health.

Other MPH students may go on to PhDs at other universities.
