ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Bachelor of Information Technology Programme is conducted at the School of Business, Computing and Tourism. In this fast-developing digital era, many organisations have integrated ICT into their business operations to improve service delivery among other things. This three-year programme prepares students for a broad range of exciting careers in the computing sector. It provides students with an opportunity to work with evolving technologies in a fast-moving industry. Students will develop essential skills in computing which will open many career paths and options for further study. During the programme, students will learn how to design and mobile apps, troubleshoot and fix computer hardware, use computers to work with and manage data, connect devices and make them work
together.
Graduates from the Bachelor of Information Technology Degree Programme are expected to take up courses such as Introduction to Information Technology, Fundamentals of Information Systems, and Introduction to Computer Networks, Basic Statistics, Structured Programming, Database Planning, Design and Management, Systems Administration, Information Systems Development, Software Engineering, Internet of Things Programming among others. The Programme is offered to satisfy the increasing demand for Information Technology Specialists in both the private and public sectors
and to promote innovative endeavors.
It also provides an avenue to those already engaged in the computing and ICT sector without a degree qualification in Information Technology to enhance their knowledge and skills and obtain formal qualifications.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the programme are:
- To introduce students to the concepts and principles of Information Technology (IT).
- To explore the technical foundation in IT and the creative application of computer and related technologies to practical problems.
- To examine computing concepts and how they can be used to develop solutions to bridge the gap between IT industry experts and business leaders to create and initiate innovation.
- To enable learners, practice the application of IT and internet technology and have a thorough grounding in the principles and practices of computing, and be properly prepared to engage in further learning.
- To instil in learners, the knowledge in specialised areas of IT with awareness of broad multi-disciplinary issues, and the ability to continue personal development to keep pace with advances in computer technology.
- To prepare students for lifelong learning.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be admitted for a course leading to the award of Bachelor of Information Technology Degree, a candidate must satisfy the general minimum entrance requirements of Nexus International University. In addition, the following regulations shall hold for the Bachelor of Information Technology Degree: –
- Direct entry
Candidates seeking admission through this avenue must have obtained at least five (5) relevant principle passes at “O” level (Uganda Certificate of Education) or its equivalent and two relevant principle passes at “A” level (Uganda Advance Certificate of Education) obtained at the same time of sitting or its equivalent, or post “O” level Diploma/Certificate with at least two years’ relevant experience in the desired field. - Diploma entry
A candidate must have attained a relevant Diploma from a recognized institution. However, If the student has ¾ of the course covered at diploma, then he/she can
continue from second year of the degree programme. - Mature age entry
A candidate must be 25 years and above and must have passed the mature age entry exam with 50 and above from recognized centers. - Higher Education Certificate entry
A candidate must have passed an accredited Higher education certificate programme with a distinction or credit. - Higher National Diploma entry
A candidate must have passed an accredited Higher National Diploma programme with a distinction or credit.
